One of the deadliest train accidents in the history of the Indian state of Odisha's rail network occurred on June 3, 2024. A little town in the Balangir area, which is about 380 kilometres from the state capital of Bhubaneswar, is close to where the disaster happened.


Initial reports state that the train, which was heading from Bhubaneswar to Delhi, derailed at roughly two in the morning close to the community of Kansbahal. More than 700 people, including men, women, and children, were travelling on the train, many of them were returning home for the summer.


Over 200 people were hurt, and there were at least 76 fatalities as a result of the incident. Passengers fought to get out of the wrecked coaches as the incident spread panic and pandemonium. Rescuers arrived quickly.
